OUR GUIDELINES FOR EXPERT SOD INSTALLATION AND CARE

Dreaming of a lush lawn? Stuck with a barren backyard or sparse grass coverage? Valley Nursery Sod Inc. can help! Since 1959, we have been providing sod and associated products. Following your purchase, the following steps will help ensure that your sod takes root and continues to grow. Read on below!

Soil Preparation
Before laying your sod we recommend adding 3 - 4 inches of good quality topsoil raked to a smooth and even surface and well rolled. Apply 20 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. of 10-10-10 fertilizer with broadcast spreader and 50 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. of lime. Lightly rake to incorporate both into topsoil.

Laying Your Sod
We recommend laying your sod in a staggered pattern keeping seams snug. Once laid, apply 8 lbs. of fertilizer per 1000 sq. ft. using a broadcast spreader. For best results, roll your sod and stake on slopes.

Watering
Saturate with water immediately after rolling the sod. You can’t overwater your lawn. Make sure to water in the morning and in the evening. Keep your lawn well-watered for the first 7 – 10 days and avoid walking on the grass for this period of time.

Mowing
Seven to 10 days after the sod is laid, and once sod has properly rooted, cut no lower than 3 inches taking care to cut no more than 1 third the total blade length. Mow subsequently as required, which will likely be once a week.

The Secret to Healthy Lawns
We recommend that you fertilize your lawns every 4 weeks with 24-0-12 at a rate of 8lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. during the season to ensure healthy grass that will stay tight and will help keep the weeds out. Our fertilizers are proven to be extremely effective for this region. We recommend avoiding traffic on grass during winter.
